www.idea.int/blog/anti-immigrant-rhetoric-grows-sweden-democracy-feeling-strain
Alistair Scrutton a high-ranking international IDEA official published a “personal” blog on the IDEA website that called the policies of the Swedish Democrats “far right” and “anti-immigrant” and cited the party’s standing in the polls as straining democracy, itself. Okay, I get that it’s a “personal” blog, but still it’s in an official forum, and it misrepresented one party’s, the Democrats’, published policies and questions their commitment to democratic principles. Questioning parties’ specific public policy choices during an election seems unusual for a technical democracy agency? The blog may represent incumbent policy bias, which usually discriminates against opposition parties. That too could impact the condition of democracy internationally.
