The Academy

The Opposition International Academy

Developing the next generation of democratic opposition leaders worldwide.

The Opposition International Academy delivers training, mentorship, and capacity-building programs for opposition leaders, party organisers, parliamentary candidates, and civil society actors operating in democracy-challenged environments.

Our programs are grounded in the Opposition Performance Index diagnostic framework — meaning every training curriculum is calibrated to the specific deficiencies opposition actors face in their country context, not generic democracy theory.

Programs

Leadership Development

Intensive training for opposition leaders on strategic communication, coalition building, legislative accountability, and operating under conditions of democratic backsliding.

Party Organisers Program

Practical skills training for party organisers on subnational network building, candidate recruitment, campaign management, and voter mobilisation in restrictive environments.

Parliamentary Skills

Training for new and experienced opposition parliamentarians on legislative oversight, budget scrutiny, question time, committee work, and building cross-party alliances.

Delivery

Academy programs are delivered in-country through our active chapters in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia, Uganda, South Africa, Georgia, Colombia, Brazil, and Costa Rica — as well as through regional convenings and online formats.

Programs are available in English and Bengali, with interpretation available for other languages on request.
