I applaud Justin for undertaking detailed research on an emerging issue, which is not well understood. However, I am concerned about state regulators coming up with bureaucratic fixes. Using V-DEM data, Opposition International has started to look at the impact of campaign finance regulations as a reason for reduced electoral contestability by opposition parties. Our initial foray suggests they reduce opposition chances for election. More later in Adoring, 2024.
